OUR COACHING ETHIC
Ryan says: “As coach I work on a ‘hands-on and practice’ attitude towards the juniors playing and improving as well as making it fun. The ethic of practice and working hard can never be pushed enough as, with the required co-ordination of the whole body to hit the ball, I feel tennis can be one of the hardest sports to learn.
“I encourage the children to do the basics correctly before they can grow and improve as a tennis player. Following instructions and using their listening skills are most important as this is key to them taking responsibility and thinking and acting for themselves.
“I really encourage the children to be confident on the tennis court as this is half the battle for learning how mentally challenging tennis can be. Once a reasonable standard has been attained, juniors and adults are encouraged to participate in club nights and matches.
All club members are encouraged to participate in the annual Summer Tournament with categories for every age group. Everyone gets involved in supporting the finalists and making it a special occasion. Winners of each age group receive their own trophy, with their names displayed on the honours board.
